Old School Me Playing DDR - 2004
Anger filled my lungs last night.
I was looking for an ace-in-the-hole. I was looking for the secret weapon in order to make sure I sealed the deal on this weight loss program. I was going pull out something I knew must of burned millions of calories, or around that much.
DDR. Yes Dance Dance Revolution. The hit game from the arcade to the home has swept the nation from the Far East and has helped teach kids to dance by stepping on arrows at the correct time for over a decade. I did hate step aerobics but I loved DDR. I in fact loved all video games. It was part of my problem. But now i have a bigger problem I remembered that my wife convinced me it was a good idea to give our games to her sister for Christmas 2 years ago. Who I found out NEVER played the X-Mas we gave her! Now I have to figure something else out…
There’s always the Wii! I know that I sweat up a storm playing Wii Sports. Wii boxing kicks my ass.
Sam and I do own DDR, but it’s been forever since I played the game. We purchased it for the sole purpose of me using it to get more fit; however, I have this thing where when I get home from work, all I want to do is relax. I do not want to exercise one bit. There’s just something about being in the house that prevents me from exercising for more than 5 minutes.
So Sam and I talked about it, and I decided to join a gym that’s on the way to and from work. In the mornings, I get up early, drive to the gym and work out for 35 minutes, shower and get ready there, then drive the rest of the way to work. This way, I get the exercising over with in the beginning of the day. I usually burn off 200 calories on an elliptical machine (which is equivalent to two apples, 3 eggs, or a Krispy Kreme donut). See this website for what 200 calories looks like: http://www.wisegeek.com/what-does-200-calories-look-like.htm.
I don’t normally like to exercise PERIOD, but this gym has TVs everywhere, including the machines! All I need are headphones, and I can watch Golden Girls while I work out. I can also bring in our iPod and listen to music or audio books. The 35 minutes go by pretty quickly when I’m distracted.
I got a Wii too! I have been passively looking for a Wii Fit but they are never in stock. Ow well. Thanks for the link I will add it to the other links I have. I would join a gym but D.C. gyms cost like $75 – 200 a month plus some crazy start up fee.
Thanks for your wonderful comment!
Wow!!! That’s expensive. I recently purchased a 1-year membership with the Nashville Athletic Club for $299.90 (which is about $25 a month)–no start up fee, nada. I’ve looked around for other gyms both in Nashville and LaVergne (where Sam and I live), but they have crazy fees and stuff. One of my friends recommended the NAC to me since it was close to where he lives in Antioch, and it worked out perfectly for me.
It’s usually hard to find Wii stuffs during the holidays, but hopefully, they’ll restock come January.
I actually pulled out my DDR for the first time in a loooonnng time the other night and thought of you! I think I might be able to beat you at that one song now.
Anyway, very funny blog, keep it up! If I come up with any tips, I’ll pass them along. Well, I know that eating more protein boosts your metabolism slightly and curbs makes you fuller longer. Or something.
[...] Play DDR for 20 minutes or until I reach My Calorie burn amount which is about 300. DRR isn’t exactly a exact math on calories burning since it just measures the same amount each time you step. It could either be a tap of the toe or a full jump plant on “Stand by me” by the AHa (current favorite song on DDR). I just bought the DDR SuperNova 2 since my old DDR games were given to my sister-in-law [...]
i remember that night! we had a lot of folks over playing DDR at my place and it was pretty swank… i dont own it though
It was a fun night. How I miss those days
